How 16 to 25 Support was founded

I am a qualified doctor and currently working in psychiatry in Essex. After qualifying from medical school I spent time working in East London (Newham).  Since qualifying as a doctor I have become very interested in the mental health and social care issues of young adults.  From this interest I decided to undertake a career in mental health and more recently I am undertaking my training as a counsellor.  After talking to colleagues who work in Newham and Oxfordshire it became apparent that a charity run service which caters for issues such as mental health, relationship difficulties, alcohol and addiction problems, sexual health, housing and finance for 16 to 25 year olds is urgently needed to improve the quality of life of the young adults living in these areas.  Due to the high rates of mental health and social problems facing the young adults in these areas versus the low level of service provision, I came up with a plan to set up a charity service in Newham and in West Oxfordshire area. 16 to 25 Support is presently forming links with other local services in the Oxfordshire area.
